DC Area Kids Head to Camp

Remember back when we were kids.  We just couldn’t wait for summer.   And if we were lucky, our parents took us to the beach or the mountains or somplace else that was just well …fun!  This is that week for a special group of inner city children from the Nation’s Capital.  It’s not called Happyland for nothing.

Seventy excited girls and boys from DC are spending this week at The Salvation Army’s sprawling 300 acre camp in beautiful Spotsylvania County, Virginia.  Camp Happyland is located 90 minutes from the Nation’s Capitol in scenic Richardsville in rural Virginia.  The facility is just west of Fredericksburg.

Every summer, The Salvation Army offers low-income parents the opportunity to send their kids to the camp.  The children take part in Christian education and character building activities and get to enjoy swimming, hiking, outdoor skills training, rock climbing, crafts and other activities.

Camp Happyland is accredited by the American Camping Association.
