After the Storm Comes Relief

Today, The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command deployed the FedEx Mobile Kitchen Unit (canteen) to assist in the massive effort to return Alexandria, Virginia back to normal following Thursday afternoon’s fierce thunderstorm that knocked out power to thousands of residents in the suburban Washington city.  This is not the first time the Area Command used canteen this summer.  The Command activated the canteen only a few weeks ago; again, following a ferocious thunderstorm that left plenty of damage in its path.  Our camera followed as Captain Ken Argot and his volunteer, John, drove through Alexandria’s streets providing lunch to crews working hard to restore power and clean up wind whipped trees.  The canteen also found an apartment complex still without power and people hanging around outside trying to stay cool on this warm summer day.
