Back to School Shopping Spree

The Salvation Army is Doing the Most Good in partnership with Target to make it possible for 100 kids in need from the National Capital Area, 12,000 in all nationwide, to head back to school well-equipped and ready to learn when they return to the classroom in the coming weeks.

On Tuesday, Aug . 10 at 9:00 a.m., four National Capital Area Target stores will host the back-to-school kids who will be given the opportunity to shop for backpacks, calculators, pen and pencils and other fun school supplies.  All of these children have received help within the past six months from The Salvation Army’s Social Services division.

The Salvation Army helps thousands of children year-round and is grateful for the opportunity to once more work with Target to meet the need where the need is greatest in these children’s lives.  Education is at the heart of Target’s giving and the Target School Spree is one of many ways Target acts locally to help kids learn and schools teach, paving a path to graduation.  As part the promotion, the company nationally awarded 39 Salvation Army divisions a total of $960,000 worth of Target GiftCards.  The children from the National Capital Area Command live in Washington, DC and Alexandria, and Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. Each $80 Target GiftCard awarded as part of the program will provide a child with the necessary supplies to go back to school in the fall, ready to learn.

Check back tomorrow for pictures of this kid-friendly and fun event.
