September 1, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

The Salvation Army along Maryland’s Eastern Shore is busy preparing for Hurricane Earl this week. Late Tuesday night, Earl was downgraded to a category 3 storm. Even still, experts are saying this hurricane is capable of delivering a powerful blow to residential and resort areas all along the eastern seaboard.

All Salvation Army units in Earl’s path were notified of the potential impact from the storm.

Major David Singletary, Emergency Disaster Services Director for the Maryland & West Virginia Division said, “At this time we are monitoring the weather situation and working with our local personnel to ensure that all equipmment and needed supplies are ready in the event that Hurricane Earl affects residents of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This preparation is being coordinated with coutny and state emergency management offiicals.”

The Salvation Army is encouraging all residents in Earl’s path to prepare an emergency supply kit and evacuation plan and, most of all, stay informed of all warnings and potential protective actions. Disaster response professionals in Maryland recommend visiting www.mema.state.md.us for additional information and tips.

The Salvation Army is asking people who want to help to do so monetarily. Go to SalArmyDC.org or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY. Remember to designate your donation to STORM.
