The Salvation Army Disaster Teams Responding Throughout the South

Jackson, MS – Even as storms continue to hammer the region, The Salvation Army has deployed disaster response teams and mobile feeding units to multiple locations throughoutLouisiana andAlabama. On Tuesday evening a strong thunderstorm system began moving across the region, spurning tornadoes. Extensive power outages, structural damage, and injuries to residents have been reported.

Mobile feeding units will be present throughout the evening to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to residents ofNatchitoches,LAandMarshallCounty,AL.

Mobile feeding units and pastoral care teams fromGadsdenandHuntsvilleinAlabamaand the Natchez Community nearNatchitoches,LAwill work to ensure that residents of storm ravaged areas can focus on recovery, while The Salvation Army meets their physical and emotional needs.

Units will be available at the following locations:

           Guntersville,Alabama: Lowe’s Parking Lot andGuntersvilleRec.Center

           Natchez,Louisiana:Bermuda Roadbehind RDS Construction

Beginning the evening of April 23, 2011 a strong super cell thunderstorm began dropping severe weather on a line stretching throughout the south. The Salvation Army responded immediately to multiple sites damaged by reported tornadoes to asses need.

 “The Salvation Army will be providing care and compassion to residents affected by these storms. We eagerly desire to reach out to the hurting residents of storm ravaged areas providing care and comfort, and the hope of a brighter tomorrow.” stated Bill Feist Divisional Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army.
