Help Joplin Relief Efforts

KANSAS CITY, MO – The Salvation Army has established a text-to-donate number specifically to support the  relief effort in tornado-stricken Joplin, Missouri. 

  • Cell phone users may text the word JOPLIN to 80888 to make a $10 donation
  • Credit card donations are also being accepted by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or clicking on  www.salvationarmyusa.org.
  • Checks may be mailed to The Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway,Kansas City,MO 64111. Please designate the gift “Joplin Tornado.”

At this time, in-kind donations are not being accepted as financial donations better allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of survivors.

Kansas City TV Station Telethon 

NBC Action News inKansas City hosted a telethon Monday from 5-7 PM to raise money for The Salvation Army tornado relief efforts in Joplin and Reading, Kansas.  The station reported late Monday night more than $59,000 had been raised during their two hour evening news block. 

As of Tuesday Morning

Currently, The Salvation Army has four mobile feeding kitchens stationed in Joplin; each is capable of serving several thousand meals. The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network also arrived in Joplin May 23 to assist survivors in locating loved ones through a ham radio network.

In Reading, Kansas, which was struck by a tornado over the weekend, The Salvation Army is serving hundreds of meals per day from two mobile feeding kitchens.
