Christmas in July – ONE DAY FOOD DRIVE

The Salvation Army seeks the public’s help to fill the shelves at area Food Pantries

WASHINGTON, DC – The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command is holding a One Day Food Drive on July 30 in Alexandria (VA) to help restock the food pantry shelves at several of our locations in the Greater Washington area. The Christmas in July One Day Food Drive runs between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. in front of The Salvation Army at 6528 Little River Turnpike.

The Salvation Army is looking for contributions of non-perishable food, laundry and hygienic goods. Following the One Day Food Drive, all of the donated items will be distributed to Salvation Army food pantries with the most need across DC, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland.

Here is the complete list of most needed items:

  • Canned Meats, Beans, Vegetables
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Canned Soups (Pop top can)
  • Dry Pasta
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Rice
  • Dry Cereals
  • Diapers
  • Baby Food
  • Hygiene Products
  • Laundry Soap

The Salvation Army works with families throughout the year to help with many types of assistance and, as is the case in many instances, this includes meeting a family’s nutritional needs. The Army does this by offering grocery vouchers and gift cards as well as filled bag directly from our Greater Washington area food pantries.

Anyone wishing to make a bulk donation should contact Liz O’Dell, Donation Drive and Volunteer Coordinator for the National Capital Area Command, at 202-756-3906.
