Doing the Most Good to help those in need throughout DC and the surrounding communities


Washington, DC, November 22-24, 2011 – The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command is providing holiday assistance to people in need this Thanksgiving that will include serving thousands of traditional Thanksgiving meals and giving more than $43,000 in grocery assistance through gift cards to needy families. 

Below is a list of activities this Thanksgiving Week throughout the National Capital region.


November 22-24 The Salvation Army is providing gift cards grocery for needy families living in Alexandria City as well as Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.


A total of more than $43,000 in gift cards to a regional grocery retailer will be given to families in the most need in order for them to buy food for Thanksgiving.

Nearly 1,500 grocery store gift cards valued at $30 each are being given to families in need throughout the National Capital area.  The distribution is as follows: 300-Alexandria City; and in the following counties: 166-Arlington, 333-Fairfax, 200-PrinceWilliam, 333-Montgomery and 133-Prince George’s.

Thanksgiving Dinner for Holly Acres Families Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Harbour View in Woodbridge

The Salvation Army Prince William Corps is a participating community partner for this event.

A Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner is being served to 400 people in need from the Holly Acres mobile park that lost their homes in the September flooding.  Harbour View

Safeway Feast of Sharing


As a participating community partner, The Salvation Army provided over 50 volunteers to assist in food prep for this event. An additional 70 volunteers will be on hand to help serve dinner to those in need.

About 5,000 DC residents will be provided a traditional Thanksgiving meal. This annual event will again be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Thanksgiving Day Dinner at The Salvation Army Sherman Avenue Corps (located in Northwest Washington, DC)


The Salvation Army Sherman Avenue Corps is located at 3335 Sherman Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.

The Salvation Army is partnering with the Cheesecake Factory give 400 DC residents a delicious Thanksgiving Day meal.  Local employees from the national restaurant chain and Salvation Army volunteers will serve dinner at 11:15am and 12:00 pm.

The Salvation Army Fairfax Corps Thanksgiving Day Dinner at the Waterford


The Waterford banquet hall is located at 12025 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy, Fairfax, VA


The Salvation Army Fairfax Corps is partnering with the Waterford restaurant to provide Thanksgiving Day Dinner to 250 people in need from Fairfax County, Virginia.
